We Are 1% for the Planet 🌍

This certification marks the beginning. The beginning of a planet-first business.

As CEO & Co-Founder, I'm proud to share this certification as a validation of our values and the achievements of our ambitious environmental roadmap launched 5 years ago. For too long, businesses like ours have taken more than we've put back into the earth. That needs to change.

Today we officially become a 1% for the Planet company, joining the likes of Dr. Bronner's, Seventh Generation, Klean Kanteen, United by Blue, Boxed Water, Traditional Medicinals, and Patagonia, the movement's founding business. A global network of now 10,000 earth-centric companies committing at least 1% of their sales to essential environmental causes.

1% for the Planet member businesses.
This isn't marketing, or symbolism, or vanity. It's clearly a short-term compromise with our bottom line. It's about responsibility. Our deep and growing sense of responsibility as a good corporate citizen to put earth first and not last. Above money. A deal with the soil, the plants, the water, the animals, and the ecosystem we operate amidst.

I've always believed that business must be a force for good. I've come to believe more and more that it must also be a devoted change agent for regeneration, and not just extraction. The floral industry touches soil health, water use, pollinator systems, and global supply chains. By joining this movement, we're putting more money where our mission is. In the last decade, we've invested over $280,000 in sustainable & urban agriculture nonprofits as well as spent more than $3,000,000 on locally grown and organic farm flowers. We expect to double that in half the time while doing even more to uplift small grassroots organizations fighting for food sovereignty and environmental justice in the Midwest.

Every stem we help grow, every one we buy, every bouquet we ship, it depends on a thriving planet. When you choose our flowers, you'll be making a vote for local agriculture, climate focus, sustainability through compost, better packaging, carbon offsets, and more. You'll be helping us create a flower future that's worth celebrating.

What is 1% for the Planet?

1% for the Planet members pledge to donate at least 1% of their annual sales directly to environmental organizations and sustainability initiatives. 1% for the Planet certifies every single donation to ensure members meet this commitment.

Each year, at least half of a member’s donation must be monetary while the remainder can often be in the form of in-kind commitments:

  • Direct monetary giving (one-time, monthly, and yearly donations)
  • Company environmental service and employee volunteer time
  • Tickets, fees, in-kind contributions, and sponsorships
  • Membership and certification dues (B Corp, 1% for the Planet, Climate Neutral, and the Planet Impact Fund)
